Cast Steel Marine Bollard Features:
Wide ranges of pulling capacity avaible, usually from 10 tons to 200 tons
High quality SG iron as standard, cast steel also can be customized
Strong and durable designs
Very low maintenance
Large line angles possible
Marine cast steel bollards are available in many popular shapes and sizes to suit most docks jetties and wharves, including Tee bollard (T bollard), horn bollard, double bitt bollard, single bitt bollard and kidney bollard.
Types of Bollards
T-head Bollard
“Tee Bollard”, “T-bollard”, this design has a top shaped like a “T”. Hence, the name. Very prominent in many parts of the world due to its simplicity and it gets the job done well up to 300 tonnes. Suitable for steeper rope angles.
Horn Bollard
Some refer it to as the “Staghorn design” as well. Suitable for steep rope angles. Two line may share a single bollard.
kidney bollard
A simple design that is suitable when low to medium tidal range is expected. Avoid steep rope angles where possible.
Single Bitt Bollard
Also known as “US Style Pillar Bollards”, it is perfect for large tidal range berths.
Double Bitt Bollard
Some call it the “Twin Horn” or “Twin”. Small base area is space-saving for small areas.
There are of course other designs available but these are the main types present all around the world in marine use.
There are also some different material for you to choose from spheroidal graphite (SG) cast iron / Ductile cast iron, cast steel and grey cast iron.
Material | Standards | Grade |
Ductile/ SG Cast iron | ASTM536 | 65-45-12 |
Cast steel | ASTM A27 | 65-35 |
Anchor bolts galvanised | ISO 898 | G.R.8.8 galvanised |
Blasting | ISO 12944 | SA2.5 |
Paint | ISO 12944 | Class C5M |
Spheroidal graphite(SG) cast iron/ Ductile cast iron is the preferred material for all marine mooring bollards applications owing to the benefits of lowest service life cost, high strength, good impact resistance and high corrosion resistance,we usually suggest this material first.
Cast steel marine mooring bollards are good cost per weight ,high impact resistant and high strength that make this material popular in some countries ,but compared with Ductile cast iron, cast steel bollards are easy to get rusty so regular maintenance is necessary to prevent corrosion.
Grey cast iron are excellent corrosion resistant and cheaper per unit weight but the need for thicker wall sections and poor inferior mechanical performace such as low strength and low impact resistance make grey cast iron last material for marine mooring bollards.
Mechanical properties
Material | Tensile Strength (Rm)N/mm2 | Yield Point (Rel) N/mm2 | Break Elongation (A)% |
SG Iron | ≥450 | ≥310 | 12 |
Cast Iron | ≥250 | ----- | ---- |
Cast Steel | ≥450 | ≥230 | 22 |
Marine mooring bollards are supplied as factory standard with a protective coating suitable for most projects.High performance epoxy or other specified paint systems can be factory applied on request in a choice of colours and thickness which make mooring bollards serve long time and trouble free service life.
